It's not often that cadets are expected to clown around, but not long ago that was precisely the order of the day.
Civil Air Patrol's Woodfield Composite Squadron had the honor of helping support the ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) during a wildly successful fundraiser at Schaumburg Airport. Doug Porter, CEO of RMHC and Retired Naval Aviator, worked with the Lima Lima Flying Team to raffle off rides in the seven back seats of their vintage T-34 Mentors military trainers as they flew over the Chicago lake-shore during Venetian night... Chicago's night time boat parade
Before the main flight, RMHC held a picnic and "open house" for families and friends. The highlight for many was Ronald McDonald's personal visit. He and patients from the local Ronald McDonald house toured the aircraft, met the crews, and see the flight team in action. As part of this event, Lima Lima flew a short flight with VIPs in the back seats including a very surprised and grateful Cadet Christine Szeremeta. Her 15 minute flight included two flyovers and plenty of formation maneuvers.
While she was in the air, the other CAP members were helping with flight line security, recruiting, and and answering all sorts of aviation questions.... all in support of some great kids, a great charity, and a great clown.
Participating at this event were:
C T Sgt Clint Greenlee
SM Amy Thomas
2Lt Ron Gallman
C. S. Sgt Chris Gallman
Cadet Christine Szeremeta
Capt H. Michael Miley
Capt. Steven Snyder
