FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
29 June, 2005
The sky is clear. Not a cloud to be seen, just the light wisp of a contrail. Just a perfect day for... pancakes.
In their 21st year, the Experimental Aircraft Association's Chapter 153 held their Father's Day Pancake breakfast at Schaumburg Regional Airport and Woodfield Squadron was again there to help. As in years past, the event drew about a thousand people of all ages for a delicious breakfast in the hanger as aircraft of all types arrived for the event. All morning the tables filled with parents, kids, pilots and non pilots from every walk of life from office workers to congressmen.... anyone who loves aviation.
Civil Air Patrol's Woodfield Composite Squadron was proud to to support the EAA again this year. For the fifth year running, cadets and seniors helped by marshaling planes, directing traffic, crowd control, and about anything EAA might need. In return, the squadron uses the event to further their community relations, recruitment, and fund raising with their fourth annual raffle which raised more than $600. Cadet Gottfried alone collected at least $200 in raffle tickets!
The winners got some great prizes. Heidi Janisch of Carpentersville, their grand prize winner, chose a flight in the beautiful Red Baron Waco and gave it to her father (Picture)
- Kari Nelson of Glen Ellyn - chose dinner at Pilot Pete's, a favorite restaurant on the field.
- John Zenino of Bartlett took home a free night at the Hilton Garden Inn of Hoffman Estates
- These winners and all who generously gave helped support the squadron's glider flight scholarship fund which allows the cadets orientation rides at Sky Soaring, a favorite glider field northwest of Chicago.
Other than breakfast, events in the hanger included full motion simulator rides, tours of various static aircraft including homebuilts, antique planes, helicopters, and more. Northwest Aviation again offered low-cost, introductory flights around Schaumburg.Various homebuilt, experimental, and other aircraft including the Lima Lima Flight Team offered flybys to an extremely appreciative crowd.
The Woodfield Composite Squadron has been in operation since 1992 and is based out of Schaumburg Regional Airport in suburban Chicago. Civil Air Patrol, the official Air Force Auxiliary, is a nonprofit organization performing more than 95 percent of inland search and rescue missions in the continental U.S. as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center. Our volunteers take a leading role in aerospace education around our community and serve as mentors to America's youth through CAP cadet programs.
