Glider Program
Soaring teaches the fundamentals of flight with unparalleled clarity and is an economical way to enjoy aviation as an alternative to powered aircraft.

Illinois Wing operates three gliders for the Civil Air Patrol glider program - two L-23 Super Blanik training sailplanes and a Schweitzer 2-33. Teamed with Sky Soaring Glider Club, Woodfield Composite Squadron fly's the Schweitzer glider based at Sky Soaring Airport in Hampshire, IL.

With soaring opportunities for both senior members and cadets, Woodfield Composite Squadron's glider program is one of the most active in Illinois.
Cadet Soaring Opportunities
In addition to power orientation flights Civil Air Patrol cadets receive five glider orientation flights. Aspiring pilots receive formal ground instruction and cockpit time with a certified flight instructor.

Senior Soaring Opportunities
Imagine the thrill and excitement of pure flight. There are soaring opportunities of senior CAP members both pilots and non-pilots. Soaring refines a power pilot's precision landing and energy management skills (An FAA Medical Certificate is not required to fly a glider). As Civil Air Patrol members, pilots can receive flight training a earn their glider add on rating. For the Non-Pilot orientation flights are available.

Wind Runner Course - Administered by the Soaring Safety Foundation and sponsored by CAP, this course serves the world and presents definitive guidance on wing runners procedures.
